Instagram Image Size Guide
The most common Instagram problem is not what to post. It is posting something that gets cropped awkwardly, feels too heavy, or leaves the text in the wrong place. Start with the right ratio, then adjust the crop yourself.
The most common Instagram sizes
- Square post: 1080 × 1080
- Portrait post: 1080 × 1350
- Story / Reels: 1080 × 1920
When to use 1:1 and when to use 4:5
If you want the safe option, 1:1 is very stable. It works almost everywhere and rarely causes trouble. If you care more about feed presence, 4:5 is stronger because it usually takes up more screen space.
What deserves extra attention in Stories and Reels
Full-screen 9:16 gives you more area, but the top and bottom often get covered by interface elements. Faces, headlines, and key text should stay away from the edges and remain in the main central zone.
A more practical workflow
Pick the Instagram ratio first, then decide the crop yourself. That keeps the tool from guessing what should be removed and gives you better control over composition.
